Bullet journal #1: making a start
For a long time I had doubts whether I should buy and use a bullet journal. At the beginning of 2018 I thought, I'm going to do it, because then I can start right at the beginning of a year :-). The article also attracted attention Anita I got over the finish line with inspiration :-). In this article I write about which bullet journal I bought and show my first pages.
Search for the ideal bullet journal for me
After searching the internet and asking for tips on Twitter, I finally bought the Leuchttrum 1917. I bought this at the local bookstore for €17.95. I bought this bullet journal because I read that it has little problem with marker penetration. I also found it useful that there is a table of contents at the front and the pages are already numbered. There is also NO explanation, which also appealed to me. And not unimportant, I love bronze :-). Bronze was a Limited Edition but there were still plenty of them.
TIP!: After my purchase I discovered the Nuuna, which has even thicker paper and prints less than the Leuchtturm1917. So if you don't like pushing through and ghosting, it might also be an idea to look at a bullet journal. For now I'll just continue with this bullet journal :-).
I also bought different colors of highlighters from Stabilo. The pastel colors are also included in this package, I was so curious about that. I also use what I have at home such as pencil, eraser, rulers, colored pencils, black fineliners and color fineliners.
Getting started with my bullet journal
Yes, and then you have a neat empty bullet journal in front of you. I found it difficult to start. I'll screw it up soon... I'm already a perfectionist. To get started, I started with the 'pen test page'.
Pens test page
I was advised on Twitter to test all the markers and fineliners in the back of the bullet journal. This way you can see exactly what the color is, but also whether the marker and fineliner are showing through very much.
I wrote the title of this page with calligraphy markers from Action. I still really need to practice ;-). Then I tested my Stabilo highlighters. I numbered the markers with a waterproof pen. I noted these numbers with the color lines. Unfortunately, these highlighters do bleed through a bit. My Edding fineliners work nicely.
My bullet journal layout
Now it was time for the layout. But what is wisdom. After much thought, I came up with the following.
Part 1 Pages 3 to 20 for my blog
Part 2 Pages 21 to 40 annual overviews
Part 3 Page 41 to ... the months.
Now you might be wondering why I don't just do pages in a row? I chose this because I don't like looking up and now I have some kind of chapters :-). I can also easily keep track of this in the table of contents.
Statistics blog 2017-2018 Page
To keep track of how many unique visitors I get to my blog per week, I created a weekly overview page in my bullet journal. I have already drawn 2017 with an orange fineliner. At the bottom I've created two boxes for the highlights of 2017 and 2018. At the top right of the spread I might want to add something but for now I'll leave it empty.
Cover page of the month of January
I got inspiration for the cover page Pinterest. The covers with snowflakes appealed to me. That's why I made my own variation on it :-). I want to incorporate black and blue into the rest of the January pages.
My first mood tracker
Of course my first mood tracker cannot be missed. In my case, in a kind of mood diary, you indicate how you felt every day. I have 4 different types of feelings:
enthusiastic/happy, relaxed/calm, stressed/busy and angry/sad.
I might change these 4 choices later. For now, these seemed fine to me. I have given these feelings a color. See bottom of the page.
I've got a taste for it, so you'll probably see more Bullet journal articles on my blog soon :-).
Do you have a bullet journal or would you like to make one?
