Crafting: Trying to make clay (Action Decotime)
I have often walked through Action and seen polymer baking clay lying around. I often hesitated and finally bought it. I mainly doubted whether I could make clay, but there is only one way to find out... Today my clay adventure.
Getting started with the clay
I was very curious whether I would be able to make clay clay. I hadn't worked with clay in a long time where I actually sculpted something. I think the last time was in high school ;-). And to be honest, I wasn't a star at it at the time either.
Things I used when claying:
- Polymer baking clay (Decotime), I bought this at Action for € 0.99 per set of 4 colors
- Knife and something to make a dent in the clay
- Cutting board
- Oven to bake the clay
- Baking paper to put the clay projects on in the oven
First I started by making a bunny. I saw the steps to make this bunny on Pinterest (see my board 'Clay Fimo'. I have saved more small clay projects on this.
The clay is a bit hard at first, but by kneading it it quickly becomes easy to knead. The clay is easy to change shape. Which didn't mean for me, the right form ;-). After trying several times I found the bunny ready. Later it went into the oven with the rest.
After the bunny I made a horse. For the horse I decided to mix two shades of brown. This was very easy. I then made the body from one piece. I made the mane and tail with small narrow pieces of black clay.
As you may have noticed from the rabbit and the horse, I still have a lot of practice to do. That's why I decided to go for an easier project. That became an octopus. The body is a round ball and the tentacles are coiled strings. That was a little easier 🙂
The mini bear
Finally, I made a mini bear from the white clay that was left.
Bake in the oven
I quickly took pictures before baking. I remember from the past with Fimo clay that the clay sometimes wanted to break during baking. Fortunately, everything went well and all four animals came out of the oven intact.
My experience with clay
As you may have noticed, my small clay projects are not very pretty. Maybe even a bit childish. Still, I enjoy doing it, and that's what matters :-).
I like how Decotime clay works. The clay is quickly malleable. So if you want to work with clay again, then the clay packs are definitely recommended. Especially for this price!
Is clay something for you?
