Crochet #14: German ready-made crochet kits
Sometimes it's just fun to try something different :-). I have already tried various Dutch and English crochet patterns. And so it was time to try a few German crochet kits. In this article my experience with two different German crochet packages that I bought while on holiday, one of an Elsa Unicorn and one of a Dietrich dragon.
Chopping set Elsa Einhorn
First I started with the Elsa the Unicorn crochet kit. This package was for sale at Topp, a German store, and cost €14.99. I think this is quite pricey. Elsa is part of the Wollowbies series. I already have several from this series crocheted animals in Dutch, these can be purchased at Boekenvoordeel.
First of all, I noticed that the German work description was easy to follow. I think this is also because the pattern is not that difficult. Basically everything is crocheted in a ring with single crochet. I know that now ;-).
Crocheting itself was not easy, I didn't like crocheting the yarn very much. It seemed a bit stiff and not that stretchy. No idea what caused it. The box contained a 3.5 crochet hook, because I don't like holes in my crochet work, so I opted for a 3.5 crochet hook. Still, there were holes in the crochet work. These were especially visible on the side. I thought that was a shame.
The end result
I am quite satisfied with the end result :-). As you may see, I did choose other moons. I thought this one was a lot cooler. It was quite a job to get the mane like this. It took me 2 evenings. All in all, I'm happy with the end result :-).
Häkelset Dietrich Drache
Crochet package Dietrich dragon is also a package from Topp and cost € 9.99. Again quite pricey, but again a very complete crochet package (yarn, crochet hook, filling wool, button, labels, paper passport of the dragon and instructions). Slightly cheaper than the unicorn, but this dragon is also a bit smaller. I noticed a lot smaller when crocheting. The end result is approximately 12cm.
The package included a size 3 crochet hook, but I used my own clover size 2.75 crochet hook. The instruction was clear and easy to follow. No tricky stitches were used either. Although I found the spines a bit difficult, but after a night of sleep I understood ;-). I just had to get it.
Crocheting is quick with a small animal, because the various parts are not that large. The disadvantage is that you are left with small parts, the ears and legs were quite difficult with 4 and later 6 single crochets in a ring. A bit of a hassle.
