Review: AliExpress Pigma Micron, Yeah or Meh?
I like to use Pigma Micron graphic fineliners for hand lettering and for my bullet journal. But these are quite pricey. On AliExpress I suddenly didn't even see these fineliners for a quarter of the price in the Netherlands. I bought a few Pigma Micron pens and tested them. Is it a yeah or a meh?
AliExpress Pigma Micron vs Pigma Micron bookstore Netherlands
When I met handlettering I bought my first Pigma Micron. These cost me €3.05 each. Now that I also work more in my... bullet journalI work with it more often. So time to order some additional thicknesses. When I was looking on the internet, I saw that the Pigma Micron is also for sale on AliExpress for only €0.67 each… but hey, what is the quality?
First I test both fineliners on white paper. Above the Dutch and below the Pigma Micron from AliExpress. What I immediately noticed is that the AliExpress version is much less black. Furthermore, the line is not equally tight everywhere and does not have even coverage. Oh... that's a shame.
The highlighter test
The bullet journal test
Of course I also tested the two Pigma Micron fineliners on Bullet Journal paper. The top one is from the Dutch store, the bottom one is the AliExpress Pigma Micron. Unfortunately, I immediately noticed that the pen from AliExpress was much less black again :-(. Even when I draw lines, the ones from the Pigma Micron from AliExpress are simply not as smooth.
My personal conclusion
Unfortunately, the AliExpress Pigma micron are not exactly the same as the Dutch version. Personally, I would buy the Dutch version again for my bullet journal. This is mainly because I really like good black. For hand lettering, I like the fineliners from AliExpress. I often scan it anyway and I can edit everything a bit.
Yeah or meh?
If you don't mind that the Pigma Microns from AliExpress are not completely black and do not write completely smoothly, you can consider them. But I think you can also find excellent fineliners at Action for perhaps even less money. Not as good as the original Pigma Micron, but certainly great to work with :-).
