Review: Xenos DIY inspiration magazine
You probably already knew that Xenos has a lot of fun craft supplies. But did you also know that Xenos now has a free inspiration magazine full of fun craft projects, tips and examples? I made 3 different small craft projects from the booklet. Curious?
Xenos Have fun! Inspiration magazine
There are five different chapters with various small projects:
– Everything for hand lettering
– Everything to paint
– Everything for crafting
– Everything to make jewelry
– Everything to decorate
Each craft project clearly states which products you need. These are all for sale at Xenos. Each craft project is explained step by step how to make something, including photos. There are also extra tips on many pages.
I chose 3 craft projects from 3 different chapters: foil cards, an embroidered bunny and metallic letters.
Craft project 1: Making foil cards
I have made foil cards before: The craft tip of 2017: Transfer foil incl. video. I only did this with more expensive foil and a more expensive glue pen. Xenos now also has transfer foil in various colors (€ 0.99) and a glue pen (from € 3.49, depending on the size). Of course I had to try this one :-). I also used paper from the A5 hand-lettering practice block (€ 2.99). If you fold these paper sheets in half, you immediately have a standard card size (A6) :-).
The inspiration magazine explains everything about this technique with transfer foil step by step. I made several cards with holographic transfer foil. To make something different from my previous cards, I combined transfer foil with hand-lettering. For this I used an additional black and white fineliner.
I gently drew the text on the card with a pencil. I traced it with the glue pen and/or the fineliners. Do you find it difficult to write something yourself? You can also buy the A4 paper pad and then print the text you want on the paper. You can then trace this text with the glue pen and/or fineliner.
Important! Let the glue dry thoroughly so that you no longer see white wet glue. Then the foil will stay in place better :-).
Craft project 2: Embroidered rabbit
I have been doing embroidery for a while now and I really enjoy it. I also immediately wanted to make the embroidered bunny when I came across this embroidery pattern in the Xenos magazine. So cute!
For the embroidered rabbit you need embroidery fabric (€ 3.99), embroidery thread (€ 3.99) and an embroidery hoop (set of 3 € 6.99) from Xenos. You can then use these supplies for multiple embroidery projects. I chose the pink embroidery fabric and pastel embroidery thread. I like pastel colors. Because I wanted to make my own embroidered rabbit, I used extra felt (€ 1.49 per set).
First I took the embroidery fabric and put it in the embroidery hoop (this is the middle hoop from the set of 3). I recreated the bunny embroidery pattern with pink embroidery thread. I just made a small mistake with the bunny's front legs. The ends are too slanted. I have not embroidered the inside of the ears, I want to put felt in them later :-).
After all, it is an inspiration magazine so I put my own spin on the bunny. I made grass with green felt and I made the ears with pink felt.
Craft project 3: Metallic letters
I thought it would be fun to make metallic letters for my home. I chose the word “Luck”. I painted the cardboard letters (€ 1.49 each) with vintage green chalkboard paint (€ 3.99). The paint did not cover in one go, so I applied two coats.
I covered the pieces that I wanted to paint with gold Acrylic Metallic paint (€ 3.99) with washi tape. I had to apply the blue 3 times to get a good opaque gold layer. I think this gold paint is so cool!
Conclusion Xenos Inspiration magazine
What a nice magazine and also free! So it's definitely worth getting it in the store.
